A licensed vocational nurse (LVN) works under the guidance of a
registered nurse (RN) to provide the sick, injured, elderly, or
disabled with basic care. To become a licensed vocational nurse
requires completing a one-year practical nursing program that is
state approved from a university, college, hospital, high
school, community college, or vocational or technical school.
LVNs work in long-term care
facilities with the elderly which include rehabilitative care,
long-term geriatric care, and caring for acutely ill clients who
are recovering from major physical challenges. Employment
opportunities also are present in ambulatory care clinics, home
health agencies, and acute care facilities. Nursing has
consistently been a profession of responsibility, integrity, and
personal growth. |

Additionally, some
important tasks certified nursing assistants
perform include bathing, grooming, and dressing patients. They
also escort patients to different rooms, help them exercise,
set up equipment, and even assist with some
procedures. Since certified nursing assistants work
in such a delicate field they need to be nurturing
and have a respectful bedside manner. They must
also have good communication skills because they
need to make sure they are listening to patients
needs to provide the best possible care. Placement
could include hospitals, any other health care
systems, private duty, convalescent home, and
an assisted living facility.
